Tribute to photojournalist wins the Photographer of the Year title in Sony World Photography Awards

Edgar Martins (Portugal) has gained the Photographer of the Year title in the Sony World Photography awards for his venture honouring his pal and photojournalist Anton Hammerl who was kidnapped and killed on 5 April 2011 by authorities militia, throughout the Libyan Civil Battle.

Martins’ work, ‘Our Battle’, was chosen as the successful venture from the 10 class winners of the Skilled competitors. His photographs, and people of the different class winners, alongside some of the second- and third-placed photographers may be seen at Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset Home in London from the 14th of April to the 1st of Could 2023.

The exhibition additionally options works by the recipient of this year’s Excellent Contribution to Photography award, the esteemed Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi.

In addition to the Photographer of the Year title, Edgar Martins wins a $25,000 (USD) money prize and a range of Sony imaging gear. He’s additionally granted a solo presentation of his work as half of subsequent year’s Sony World Photography Awards exhibition.

Pupil Photographer of the Year

College students have been invited to submit 5 to 10 photographs on the theme ‘In a Altering World’, highlighting optimistic tales of growth and progress from throughout the world. The competitors was gained by Lengthy Jing (China Mainland) of Yunnan Arts College. Together with the title, Pupil Photographer of the Year, Lengthy Jing gained his college €30,000’s price of Sony digital imaging gear.

Youth Photographer of the Year

The theme for this year’s Youth competitors was ‘Your On a regular basis’. It was gained by Hai Wang (China Mainland, 17 years-old) whose work was chosen from a shortlist of 7 by photographers underneath the age of 19.

Sustainability Prize

Alessandro Cinque (Italy) has been introduced as the first winner of the Sustainability Prize. He receives a $5,000 money prize and a presentation of his venture as half of the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition in London.

This new prize was developed in collaboration with the United Nations Basis and Sony Footage’ Image to recognise the tales, individuals and organisations whose actions spotlight one of the United Nations’ environmental Sustainable Improvement Targets.

Cinque gained the prize for his collection ‘Atrapanieblas’ (Fog Nets) which paperwork an progressive resolution serving to to sort out power water shortages in Lima, Peru.
