To hope: A magazine documenting the resilience of the Ukrainian people

After a number of months of residing safely in Germany, Lewandowski started to invite himself how else he may assist the people of Ukraine. Deciding motion was once essential, he set about curating a magazine, Сподіваюсь (To Hope). “I thought of how I may use pictures to focus on, help, and provides voice to the fight I witness on a daily basis and the nationwide photographers I love,” he writes in the e-newsletter’s advent. “…I consider pictures has the risk to provide area for mirrored image in a global violently divided.”

On sale lately, To Hope items the paintings of 34 photographers – many of whom are themselves Ukrainian – together with Sasha Maslov, Ira Lupu, Maria Matiashova and Alec Soth. Amid the destruction of struggle and the worry of displacement, those photographers captured moments of humanity, peace, attractiveness, relaxation and power. As Lewandowski units out in To Hope’s advent: “I’m really not Ukrainian and I don’t know what it’s love to be driven out of your house, however on a regular basis once I see firsthand how resilient the Ukrainian people are it offers me hope that this recovery and a greater Ukraine will exist.”
