Insider, Outsider: Jeano Edward’s EverWonderful

The small island of Jamaica has a definite visible id — it’s identified for its good looks, song, and vigorous inhabitants, parts that Jeano Edwards paperwork in his photobook, EverWonderful. Edwards left Jamaica on the age of 16, shifting to New York City. For Edwards, returning to the island – which he does once a year – is a time for mirrored image; a duration by which he exists as an insider and outsider, native and customer. 

“I’ve spent such a lot time out of doors [Jamaica], and that gave me a undeniable point of view,” the photographer explains. In his self-published e book, he compiles 4 years (and 4 journeys) into a visible diary of portraits. Edwards’ dating to his house nation is mediated thru his ongoing documentation of the island’s population, his distinctive eye taking pictures the country in some way no outsider, and no native, may. Through the pictures Edwards paints a deeply non-public symbol of the island. There is an ease and sense of peace throughout the paintings; a heat sense of house. 

“I used to be bored with seeing Jamaica in that one explicit, stereotypical manner,” he says. “I sought after to turn the mundane, the common, and discover how I see it.” The photographs are fair and heartfelt.
